The M-990i Gen 2, which was totally redesigned for 2015, is a high performance mini camera that comes with a handy 2-inch, color preview screen. The preview screen makes operations easier for aiming, programming, and viewing camera images while you are still on the trail.

Ease of Use

The new M-990i Gen 2  features a 2-inch LCD color preview screen that offers excellent live viewing for easier aiming, navigating the menus, programming the camera and viewing captured images. The LCD screen buttons are backlit for ease of viewing during low-light conditions.

Programming the camera is not hard but like any new electronic device, it usually takes a few minutes to learn how to navigate the menus. Once you learn how the menus are structured programming the camera to your specifications is a breeze. The M-990i Gen 2 from Moultrie is truly the best game camera for the money on the market today.

Motion Detection Circuit

The M-990i Gen 2 game camera uses a passive infrared (PIR) motion-activated sensor that takes less than 1 second after a motion trigger to make sure picture opportunities are not missed.

The motion sensor is triggered by heat and movement within 50 feet when it detects changes in temperature that occur. The sensitivity can be adjust to high or low. When operating in time-lapse mode, the motion-activated trigger is still active, so the camera will capture images whenever triggered by movement.

Image Quality and Resolution

The M-990i comes with up to a 10 MP resolution to provide improved image quality with substantially clearer and sharper daytime images. Nighttime images are also improved over the original M-990i providing high quality contrast that is critical to identifying game animals at night. The new camera design incorporates a “grid” pattern over all LED lenses which provides for improved concealment in the woods.

The M-990i game camera has multiple settings to set the photo resolution to optimize storage and image quality. All photos are captured in 16:9 aspect ratio and optional resolutions include:

  • Low 0.9 MP (1280×720)
  • Medium 2.0 MP (1920×1080)
  • High 4.0 MP (2688×1512)
  • Enhanced 10.0 MP (4224×2376)

Video Resolution

Captures video in 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio and comes equipped with two different resolution options:

  • Low VGA VGA (640×480)
  • High (1280×720)

Video Sound

The M-990i records sound with a built-in microphone when capturing video.

Optical Field of View

Features a 42-degree horizontal viewing area recorded by the camera.

Infostrip

Every image captured can be imprinted with an Infostrip along the bottom that includes date, time, temperature (in F or C), moon phase, barometric pressure, and an 11-character name of the camera/location.

Multi-Shot Mode

When using the Delay function, multi-shot mode allows the camera to record multiple photos between set delay increments. “Triggered” multi-shot (3 photos) requires a motion trigger for each photo. “Burst” multi-shot takes 3 photos quickly after a single motion trigger.

Time Lapse Mode

Timelapse mode disables the PIR sensor and instead triggers the camera through a countdown timer that can be set for up to 2 different time lapse captures per day.

Time Lapse Interval

In this setting, you can set an adjustable interval between each image capture. Use longer intervals for slower changing subjects and shorter intervals for faster changing subjects. The M-990i allows for 13 different interval settings, lasting from as little as 10 seconds to as long as 24 hours.

Hybrid Mode

The camera can be triggered by both its passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor and a time-lapse program.
